On November 20, the 2016 Award Dinner held by Jamaica Association of Engineers was held in Kingston, capital of Jamaica. At the dinner, Jamaica North-South Highway won Jamaica 2016 Best Engineering Award.
Guided by the “going global” strategy of the State, CCCC invested and started to construct Jamaica North-South Highway on the public-private partnership mode in 2013. North-South Highway was successfully completed and opened to traffic in 2016 after three years’ hard work. It is the first overseas infrastructure project that Chinese enterprise invested and operated formally entered the operation stage.
Jamaica North-South Highway is 66km, running from Kingston, capital of Jamaica in the south to Ocho Rios, a tourist attraction of south Jamaica, and it goes through a lot of mountains which made the construction challenging. The completion of this highway will shorten the travel time from the south to the north of Jamaica to 50min from 90min, and greatly enhance the travel efficiency of the local residents. Jamaica North-South Highway is greatly praised by the local government and also considered to be a “friendship road connecting the people of China and Jamaica” by local people.
